Player Profiles
Reports from last season
MANAGER
Paul Cass DOB Oct 58 (Ex striker now manager)
Paul played over 300 games for Gossoms making his debut in 1982.
A prolific scoring record with over 300 goals also. He had quick
feet and used to dance around big central defenders. Scored 5 goals
against Spinners in one game when being marked by Martin Patching.
Has had a break from football after a lot of success at Agrevo Sports
but is now back in Management and looking to make his mark in the
Berkhamsted Sunday League. Respected by all even though he supports
Chelsea and rates Charlie Cooke as his all time favourite player.
Hobbies include Golf and is currently teaching his son Lewis to
swing the clubs. Here is for a good season in charge.

GOALKEEPER
Craig Ringsell DOB Feb 76
Gossoms' No. 1 keeper has had a good season and, once again, proved
himself to be the best keeper in the league. With outstanding performances
in some of the bigger games he showed his great ability and agility
as one of the biggest and strongest keepers around. An outstanding
performance against Hexton in the first round of the County Cup
he showed his true goal keeping abilities and kept Gossoms in the
game as he did on numerous other occasions. |
DEFENDER
Ray Maginley DOB Feb 62
The only player to achieve 100% attendance this season, Razor remains
as fit and as sharp as ever. Still enjoying his football he's 39
in years but feels like he's still in his twenties. The influential
club captain remains as a key part of the Gossoms End team both
on and off the field. |
 |
 |
DEFENDER
Steve Terry DOB June 62
This influential defender proved to be an excellent addition to
Gossoms along with his ability to score important goals. His captaincy
also influenced the team in a positive manner as he was able to
help the team into a new dimension. A popular player in his first
season with Gossoms End.
|
DEFENDER
Jon O'Donnell DOB June 70
This highly dependable sweeper is, without doubt, one of the best
around. He commands Gossoms' defence like no other and this season,
more than any other, proved his commitment to the mighty Gossoms.
A quality footballer who has given so much to Gossoms in this season
and very much since he started playing for the club. In his fifth
season with Gossoms he is arguably the most consistent player on
the Gossoms' books. King of the 'one liners' he is the always a
key part of the dressing room banter. |
 |
 |
DEFENDER
Mark Dyer DOB November 62
This season has been one of his best ever. Every game he has been
a contender for man-of-the-match. A player of pure heart he's Gossoms
through and through. His hard tackling and desire to win has been
a major part of Gossoms success this season. His performances since
November showed the manager the error of his exclusion in the first
few weeks of the season. A great season from this accomplished Gossoms'
defender who has also played in goal, very admirably, when called
upon. |
DEFENDER
Roger Bateman DOB August 60
Roger continues to prove his critics wrong. He remains as one of
the most consistent centre-halves in the league. Always dependable
he's performed well whenever called upon. He's a strong defender
who no one beats in the air. Let's hope Roger continues to prove
his critics wrong! He's another player, like Alan Lambert, Ray,
Delly and Nobby, who contributes a lot to the side, both on and
off the field. |

MIDFIELD
Andy Dell DOB Sept 65
Always first on the team sheet Delly continues to show his prowess
from the centre of the park. This season he has played with an incredible
amount of heart and has never showed any signs that the years are
tagging on. Playing like a '20 something' Delly remains one of the
most sought-after mid-fielders in the league Ð any team would
love to have him within their armoury. Delly makes a quiet but valuable
contribution to Gossoms both on and off the field.
|
MIDFIELD
Terry Nightingale DOB Oct 68
Terry, in seasons past, has been prolific as a goal scorer from
mid-field, however, this season he was more called upon to play
a defensive roll often as sweeper. However, when called into mid-field
it was the same old Terry with that knack of arriving in the box
at the right time! Due to his commitments to Berkhamsted Town, Terry's
contribution to Gossoms this season has not been as extensive as
he would have liked with only eight appearances more a sign of how
our season was badly affected by the weather rather than Terry loyalties
to Gossoms. He remains a Gossoms' man through and through! |
 |
 |
MIDFIELD
Ben Boyd DOB Aug 74
Ben is an accomplished two-footed central mid-fielder who has always
played well. He started off the season as one of the most influential
players in the centre of the park. However, competition for places
in the centre of the park has been strong with as many as nine players
going for four positions. Hence, after a great start, as soon as
Ben missed a game the competition to regain his place was an uphill
battle. He remains as one of the manager's favourite central mid-field
players especially as his commitment to Gossoms has been unquestionable. |
MIDFIELD
Paul Tomlin DOB Feb 73
Paul had a serious operation early in the season which hampered
his contribution to Gossoms End. He remains as a mid-fielder who
everyone loves to play alongside. His only failure has been his
lack of games. He's Gossoms through and through and, injury permitting,
we hope to see him as a permanent part of Gossoms' mid-field next
season. |
 |
 |
MIDFIELD
Alan Lambert DOB May 73
Alan remains Gossoms' hard man. Having said that, his yellow cards
have been few and far between and his red cards non-existent. Another
Gossoms players who is there rain or shine, frost or snow. Even
when he's injured he's there and pulling on a shirt. Gossoms' 'I
don't miss' penalty taker anchors the mid-field, adds steel when
needed, and even comes up with his regular contribution of goals.
Gossoms' social secretary and Web Site minder makes him ones of
Gossoms' most valuable team members. |
MIDFIELD
Andy Bissell
Better known as 'Biss', in his first season at Gossoms he has collected
a number of Man-of-the-Match awards and straightaway showed his
attributes as possibly the best central mid-fielder in the league.
He was very instrumental in Gossoms' 9-1 thrashing of last year's
league champions Flamstead Vale. Even against some of the leagues
'rougher' sides, Biss showed himself to be in a different class.
This truly two-footed player could be one of the biggest influences
for Gossoms' future.

 |
MIDFIELD
Jimmy Wiggins DOB Nov 64
Jim has had a successful season although he would agree himself
that, through injury, he hasn't played as many games as he should
have. He still has a lethal left foot and is one of the best attacking
mid-fielders around. Scorer of spectacular goals he will be looking
at next season and aiming to add more to his season's tally of games
and goals. He still has the hottest left foot around. Definite contender
for goal of the season with his left foot volley versus The Old
Grey Mare at home in April. |
FORWARD
Colin Gower DOB Sept 81
The most exciting young prospect in Berkhamsted, Colin 'Scholes'
Gower, certainly knows where the net is. His attitude and perseverance
as a young player is commendable. His blistering pace and unselfish
attitude makes him a respected young player who the older, more
experienced, players enjoy playing alongside. Despite often coming
off the bench he ended up as one of Gossom's leading goal scorers.
Definitely a brilliant prospect for the future. |
 |
 |
FORWARD
Ricky Ibe DOB Sept 71
Ricky is, unquestionably, one of the best forwards around. One
of the most likeable men around his only flaw remains his unreliability.
His commitment and ability remain unquestionable as his contribution
always goes way beyond the expectations of any forward. Strong
in the air and clever on the floor he has all the attributes to
be the very best. For most of the season he was Gossoms' leading
goal scorer only being pipped at the post, in the final game of
the season, by Andy Walker.
|
FORWARD
Mark Osborne DOB Jan 64
'Ossie', like Andy Mullins, did not play as many games as he would
have normally liked. Commitments to Berkhamsted Town FC meant that
the number of games tallied were not as many as Ossie would have
wanted. Having said that, he is still fitter than most and has the
versatility to play both up-front and in mid-field. He was present
for most of the games and made valuable goal-scoring contributions
to many of them. In particular, his contribution in the two biggest
league games, versus Flamstead Vale, were invaluable. Ossie remains
as one of Gossoms' most experienced and influential players. The
ultimate 'big game' player. |
 |
 |
FORWARD
Simon Beddall DOB Dec 76
Simon has had one of his best season's ever. He has always been
a highly talented player but this season, playing in mid-field behind
the front two, he has been a revelation. This season he has consistently
taken control of games with the bonus of goals. Great to see such
a talented player have such a good season. |
|
FORWARD
Andy Walker DOB Sept 62
Andy Walker in his first season with Gossoms has been the best
contribution to this year's successes. He's played wide on the
left of mid-field as well as wide on the right, while his favoured
position is up front. This season's leading goal scorer despite
playing the majority of his games from mid-field. Without doubt
one of the fittest players in the side he never seems to stop
running. 'Walks' has been Gossoms' most successful acquisition
this season.
|
 |
 |
FORWARD
Ben Williams
The find of the season. Ben joined Gossoms in March and immediately
made an impact with a hat-trick in his first game. There is little
doubt that if Ben had been in the side from the beginning of the
season he would have been leading goal scorer. His quick feet, great
pace and eye for goal make him a formidable contribution to Gossoms
End both now and in the future. A player very much in the Gossoms'
mould he's a find for the future. |
|
FORWARD
Neil Spencer
Spanner holds the Gossoms' record for record number of appearances.
This season he showed his prowess both in goal and up front and
increased his appearances for the club to an amazing 332 with
230 goals. In every game he played he made a valuable contribution
as only Spanner can. The new-look, slimmer, streamline Spanner
suggests that the number of appearances record may be further
extended. He still has a great eye for goal as well as the ability
to hinder the plight of most forwards when he's in goal.
